The Cutty Sark and the Royal Observatory with its Planetarium are also close by (could be visited on either day according to time available).
Lunch: The Trafalgar Tavern is close by and offers pub lunches with views of the Thames.
In the afternoon The Naval Hospital at Greenwich where amongst other things we will see a major work by Benjamin West. The Naval Hospital is now part of the University of Greenwich. The impressive buildings were designed by Wren, Webb and Hawksmoor, and we will hope to see the seventeenth century Painted Hall and the rococo Chapel.
If time allows visit St Alfege Church as we head back to the hotel. Originally built 712, the church was rebuilt to designs by Hawksmoor in 1712-14. General Wolfe is interred there.
4.30 return to the hotel. Informal Dinner at hotel 7pm

The majority of our party are staying at The Devonport House Hotel which is within walking distance of all the above. It is a large 1920’s hotel with all the usual facilities . Alternatively the Ibis Greenwich is a more modern budget hotel, also in the village and some members are booked in there.. Please make your own booking as required.

All the visits are close together and can be reached on foot from either hotel, but attendees should make their own arrangements to get to London/Greenwich and back home. However our main party are travelling on the 11.23am from Oxenholme to Euston (Monday 6th Mar) and returning 11.30 (Thurs 9th).
Euston to Embankment on the Northern line followed by River Clipper to Greenwich Pier is a possible route to Greenwich, as is the Docklands Light Railway from Bank - via the City.

Everyone is welcome to join this trip, but to help plan the individual visits we need to know numbers in advance. If you plan to join us on the 7/8th March
